It protects the surface of the glass rather than its structure. Paint, marker, scratches and acid etching land on the film instead of the pane. What it does not do is stop anyone marking your windows, and it is not an impact or break-in product: it changes where the damage ends up, not whether it happens.

Mostly the number of panes and how easy they are to reach. A single storefront window is a different job from every panel in a lobby, and glass at height or inside an elevator car takes longer to get at than glass at street level. Whether an old sheet has to come off first counts as well, since removal is part of the work rather than a separate visit.

By changing what a single incident costs you. Without film, an etched or scored pane has to be replaced, and that is glazing work with a glazing bill. With film on it, the same incident costs a sheet of film and the visit to change it. What that comes to depends on the glass, how much of it there is and how many panes are involved.

The two names are used loosely, so it is worth asking which one is being quoted. Anti-graffiti film is a surface product: it takes marking, scratching and etching, and it is meant to be renewed. Film sold as anti-vandalism or impact film is usually thicker, and its job is holding a broken pane together rather than protecting its surface. They are not interchangeable, and a quote should say which one it covers.

Yes, and that is the point of it. Anti-graffiti film uses an adhesive meant to release cleanly, which is what separates it from film intended to stay on a window for years. A marked sheet is stripped off and a fresh one goes on in its place, and that can happen more than once over the life of the same pane.

Anti-graffiti film is installed pane by pane, so the area affected is the glass being covered and the space in front of it, not the whole floor. An entrance screen, an elevator car and a restroom partition are three different levels of interruption for that reason.

Cleaning handles spray paint and marker on bare glass. Etching and scratches cannot be polished out, so the conventional answer to those is replacement, one pane at a time, every time it happens. Film changes the unit you replace. The condition is that it has to be on the glass before the damage happens, which is why it is bought ahead of an incident rather than after one.

They do different jobs. Kepler's safety and security film is K-Shield, an 8 mil film designed to help hold shattered glass together while adding UV protection, which is about what happens to a pane when something hits it. Anti-graffiti film never gets that far: it works at the surface, above the glass. One does not replace the other, and nothing stops a building from using both.
