A new Tesla is the easiest time to think about film. The glass is clean and unmarked, and you can settle on a shade before the first hot week of the year rather than after it. Air conditioning is the main reason efficiency drops in hot weather, and the US Department of Energy notes the effect can be larger in percentage terms on an electric car, because the cooling is drawn from the same battery that moves you. Ceramic film turns away a share of the solar energy at the glass before it becomes cabin heat, so there is less for the air conditioning to pull back down. How much difference you notice depends on the day, the glass and how you drive.
A Tesla parked in the sun heats up through its glass first. A ceramic film rejects part of that solar energy at the window, so the cabin starts cooler when you get back in. The Department of Energy's own hot-weather advice points the same way: pre-cool while the car is still plugged in and use a milder setting, and less of the battery goes on cooling.
Heat is only part of it. Kepler films block over 99% of ultraviolet light, the part of sunlight associated with faded seats and trim, and cut glare by an amount that depends on the shade you choose. On a bright morning heading into low winter sun, that is the difference you feel first.
Ceramic film works differently from the dyed tint most people picture. The heat control comes from ceramic particles worked into the film rather than from how dark it looks, which is why even the lighter Kepler shades still reject infrared heat. It is worth being straight about the trade-off, though: on Kepler's own published tables the darker shades still reject the most total solar energy.
The heat control in Kepler IR and IR+ comes from a nano-ceramic layer instead of metal. That matters on a Tesla: there is no mirror-like finish on the glass, and none of the interference with phone keys, radio and connectivity that metalized films were known for.

These are Kepler's published maximums for the IR+ range, and they vary by shade, with the lightest films lower on each measure. Infrared rejection is not the same thing as total solar energy rejected, so compare films on the same measurement and ask your dealer for the specification sheet for the exact range and shade you are quoted. The lifetime cover applies to manufacturing defects such as bubbling, peeling and fading.
