It sits over the pane as a clear sacrificial layer, so spray paint, marker, scribing tools and acid etching meet the film first and the glass behind it stays as it was. When the layer has taken enough, it is removed and a new one goes on, and the pane itself never has to be cut out.

That depends on how much glass is affected and how the film is specified, so the dealer quoting the work is the one who can give you a timescale. What does not change is the kind of job it is: a layer being renewed rather than glass being cut and reordered.

Marked glass is normally replaced, and the glass is the expensive part. With film on it, the surface taking the damage is the layer, so the layer is what gets replaced. It is worth being clear about the limit: anti-graffiti film addresses surface damage such as paint, scratching and etching, not breakage. Holding a broken pane together is the job of safety and security film.

The two terms overlap in the trade, which is why it pays to check exactly what is being quoted. Anti-graffiti film is the surface layer that takes paint, scratching and etching and is designed to be replaced. Film sold as anti-vandalism or security is usually thicker and aimed at holding glass together under impact. They answer different problems, and some buildings specify both.

Removability is the whole point of it. Unlike the other films in the safety and security family, graffiti film is made to come off easily so it can be replaced quickly, leaving the glass underneath undisturbed. Your dealer can tell you how the film they are quoting is specified for your glass.

Fitting is done by an independent Kepler dealer, so access, sequencing and how long each pane is out of use are agreed with them rather than set by Kepler. Kepler's part is the film; the dealer plans the work around your building and confirms it with you before anything is booked.

Repair and replacement both start after the damage; film is in place before it. Once it is on, an incident is handled by renewing a layer, and the frontage does not have to wait on a particular pane being available. Your dealer will price the film for the glass you want covered, so you can weigh that against what the damage is costing you now.

In Connecticut and everywhere else, safety and security window film is built to hold a broken pane together, keeping shards in place and, properly specified and attached, slowing an intruder down; Kepler's own K-Shield sits in that category as an 8 mil safety and security film. Anti-graffiti film does the opposite job, taking surface damage on a layer that is meant to be replaced. Buildings often specify both, on different glass and for different risks.
