Reflective film works with the light rather than against it: it gives daytime privacy from the brighter side, and that reverses after dark, when the building is lit and the street is not.

Kepler publishes 99% ultraviolet rejection for its Cosmic solar control shades. Ultraviolet is one cause of fading in stock, upholstery and printed signage, but visible light and heat contribute to it as well, so film reduces a display's exposure rather than removing it. That distinction matters most in a shop window, where the merchandise nearest the glass takes the worst of everything the sun is doing all day. If the value of what sits in that window is the reason for the project, say so during the survey: it changes which range makes sense, and it usually pushes the conversation towards a shade that controls solar energy as well as ultraviolet.

The safety argument for film is separate from the security one. If a pane fails, whether from impact, wind-borne debris or a knock in a corridor, film holds the fragments in the frame rather than letting them fall. That is about the people standing next to the glass, and it is why the frame and any attachment matter as much as the film itself.
