Window tint rules for vehicles are set by the state and enforced on the road, and they differ by window and by vehicle type. This guide sets out what the regulations cover in Minnesota so you can talk to an installer with a clear idea of what applies to your car.

Film that does not meet the state rules can lead to a citation, and often to a correction notice that asks you to put the vehicle right and show proof that you have. Removing and replacing film is time and money you had not planned to spend, and repeat problems are treated less leniently than a first one. It is far simpler to check the limits for your vehicle before the film goes on.
Stripping film off is slow work and often leaves adhesive behind. Done carelessly, it can permanently damage the defroster lines on a rear window.
The regulations treat vehicles differently depending on how they are classified, and they set out what is permitted window by window. The diagrams below summarize the limits for passenger vehicles and for multi-purpose vehicles. Read the one that matches your car, and remember that choosing a film is a separate exercise from meeting these rules — an installer can help with the first, but the vehicle has to satisfy the second.
Passenger Vehicles
This category covers passenger cars such as sedans, coupes and convertibles. Again the limits are set window by window, with the glass around the driver treated most strictly.

Kepler IR and IR+ are nano-ceramic films, so heat performance is measured separately from how dark the film looks. That opens up lighter shades — compare the exact film and shade before you decide.

Tesla Window Tint
Kepler film is applied by independent installers who work with it day in, day out and know how it behaves on different vehicles and different glass. They will look at your car, talk through the shades that suit it and explain what each film does before any work is booked. The conversation is with the dealer throughout — they handle the quote, the appointment and the job itself.

Tint rules for vehicles are set in state law and enforced on the road, so a film that is too dark for the window it is on can lead to a citation. In many cases a correction notice is issued, which asks you to bring the vehicle back into compliance and show proof, and repeat problems are treated more seriously than a first one. The penalties that apply, and how they are handled, are a matter for the state and the courts rather than for a film supplier, so check the current statute or ask local law enforcement if you are unsure. Choosing a film is a separate step: an installer can talk you through shades and how each one performs, but it remains your responsibility to confirm what is permitted for your vehicle.

Ask a local tint shop whether they carry Kepler window film or can order it for your installation.
