Tinting is legal within limits, and those limits are set at state level, with different rules for different windows on a vehicle. Our window tint laws page sets out the current position. Rules are reviewed from time to time, so check them before committing to a shade. Choosing a film and meeting the law are two separate steps, and your installer can talk you through both.

The easiest way to avoid a removal job later is to choose a legal shade at the outset and have the film fitted properly. Our window tint laws page covers the rules that apply. Kepler films use a multi-layer construction rather than a single tinted sheet, and the ranges are designed to work across the parts of the spectrum you cannot see as well as visible light. Much of the heat and the fading potential reaching your car comes from infrared and ultraviolet energy, so a film that only darkens the glass tells you very little about comfort. Kepler's nano-ceramic IR and IR+ ranges concentrate on that invisible energy, which is why two films with the same visible light transmission can feel quite different on a warm day. Fitting window film does not normally affect a vehicle warranty, since the film is applied to the glass rather than to a mechanical or electrical component. If you have any doubt, the simplest step is to check the terms with your dealer before booking, and to keep the shade within the legal limits for your windows.

New film needs a little patience. Give the adhesive time to cure before rolling the windows down, and hold off on cleaning the inside of the glass while it settles; your installer will tell you how long to wait.
