Laminated glass already has an interlayer of plastic bonded between two sheets, so it is built to hold together when broken. Adding security film to the inner face builds on that, reinforcing the surface and adding another layer that resists penetration and keeps fragments off the floor. Because the laminate itself carries much of the load, laminated glazing is generally the most straightforward of the three to work with. It can make a break-in harder, slower and louder, which is usually what matters. Most forced entries through glass rely on one quick strike and a clean opening. With security film in place the pane may crack but stay in the frame, so an intruder has to keep working at it in full view and full earshot, and many give up or move on. The same behaviour helps with vandalism, storm debris and accidental impacts, where holding the fragments together limits both injury and the mess left behind. The two terms describe much the same product and are often used interchangeably. Both refer to a thick film bonded to the glass to hold fragments together when a pane breaks.
