Check the window, not just the film shade

Passenger Vehicles
Requirements by window position
Check the front side windows, windshield and rear-window conditions separately. Measure the applied film together with the existing glass.
Windshield -
Above AS-1 lineKeep the tinted strip above the AS-1 line, or within the top five inches if there is no line. Glass and film must transmit at least 25% of light with no more than 25% reflectance. Red, amber and blue are prohibited. Clear, untinted UV film is treated separately by DPS.
Front Side Windows -
25% or moreFor the side windows immediately beside the driver, glass and film together must transmit at least 25% of visible light, with no more than 25% luminous reflectance.
Rear Side Windows -
No darkness limitTexas exempts side windows behind the driver from the tint restrictions described in Transportation Code §547.613.
Rear Back Windows -
Mirror conditionThere is no rear-window tint restriction when both outside mirrors provide the required view at least 200 feet behind. Without those mirrors, glass and film must transmit at least 25% of light with no more than 25% reflectance.
