Window Tinting Delaware

Compare like with like. Ask which range and which shade is being quoted, what the published light transmission and solar figures are for that shade, and which warranty document comes with it. Kepler publishes those figures for every automotive and architectural shade it makes, and the independent dealer quoting you can confirm the price, the glass being treated and what the work involves. A quote that names the film and the shade is far easier to judge than one that names only a price.

Start with the job the window has to do. If heat and glare are the problem, look at the ceramic tiers, where Kepler lists up to 81% infrared heat blocking on IR and up to 98% on the darker IR+ shades, from a metal-free build that avoids signal interference. If privacy matters more, a darker automotive shade or a frosted or blackout architectural film may suit better, and if the concern is broken glass, K-Shield is an 8 mil safety and security film made to help hold shattered glass together. Your dealer should look at the glazing itself before recommending a shade, because an existing coating or sealed unit changes how any film performs.

Delaware sets them in section 4313 of Title 21. On the windshield, tint is allowed only along the upper edge, where it must be transparent and stay off the AS-1 area. Material on the front side windows and the forward side wings must have a visible light transmission of 50% or greater. On the side windows behind the driver and on the rear window, the statute permits material with a visible light transmission of 0% or greater. A signed statement from a licensed physician, osteopathic physician or optometrist supports a medical exemption for the owner or usual operator, and section 4313A places responsibility for complying with the limits on the commercial installer. The reading that matters is the finished glass and film together, not the number printed on the film.

That is the installer’s answer rather than ours. The dealer quoting your car window tinting in Delaware sets the schedule, because the time needed depends on the vehicle or building, the number of windows, whether old film has to come off first and how the film is left to cure. Follow the advice that comes with the film, because it depends on the product and the adhesive used. As a general rule, give fresh film time to cure before cleaning it, then use a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner rather than blades or scouring pads. Kepler’s automotive films carry a scratch-resistant top coat, but no coating survives an abrasive tool. Your installing dealer can give you the care sheet for the exact film on your glass.

It can reduce the solar heat coming through the glass, which is the part of the equation film can influence; it is not a substitute for better glazing. Kepler publishes the numbers to judge that by: the Cosmic 19 architectural shade, for example, is listed at a 0.36 solar heat gain coefficient with 64% total solar heat rejection and 99% ultraviolet rejection. What reaches your bill depends on the glazing already in place, the orientation of the windows and how the space is cooled. Treat any saving as an estimate to discuss with your dealer rather than a promise.

It depends what you need the glass to do. Film is a comparatively small change to a building that can cut solar heat gain, take the edge off glare on screens and displays, hold ultraviolet transmittance under 1% on the shades that publish it, and, in the case of safety film, help hold broken glass together. It does not replace glazing and it will not stop heat escaping in winter. Weigh the published figures for the shade you are considering against what the room actually suffers from, and start with the windows that cause the problem rather than every window at once.
