By being the surface that gets damaged. The film goes over the glass, so spray paint, permanent marker, scratched tags and acid etching land in a clear layer rather than in the pane. Where the damage is confined to that layer, the marked film is removed, a new one goes on and the glass underneath comes back unmarked, so you put a defaced frontage right without replacing a sheet of glass.

That depends on how many panels were marked, how they are glazed and how easy they are to reach, so no web page can honestly give you a number. Ask the dealer quoting the work and they will tell you what to expect for your glass.

It is a surface product, so the limits are real. A deep enough gouge can cut through any surface layer, and cracking, shattering and forced entry are a different problem that a sacrificial film is not built for. If breakage is the worry, that is a safety and security film question rather than an anti-graffiti one.

The terms are used loosely across the trade. Anti-graffiti film means a removable surface layer that takes scratching, etching and paint. Anti-vandalism is a broader label, and often describes a thicker film aimed at impact and forced entry rather than surface marking. They are not interchangeable, so ask any quote which product it covers and what that product is specified for.

It is made to come off. Installers take the marked layer away and fit a fresh one, and the graffiti goes with it, so the glass stays where it is. How a particular removal goes still depends on the film, the surface and the condition of the glazing, which is a question for the dealer quoting the work.

The work happens at the glass, so it is the area around each opening that is affected rather than the whole building. How much that matters depends on where the glass sits and when the work is done, and you arrange the timing directly with the dealer, who will tell you what access they need.

Repairing or replacing glass is reactive: the damage lands on the pane, and you are into glaziers, lead times and matching the glass. A renewable film puts a planned layer in between, so a marked window becomes a film change. That tends to pay off on frontages that are hit repeatedly; where damage is rare, ask your dealer to price both so you can compare.

Safety and security window film does a different job. It is a thicker film made to help hold shattered glass together, which is what Kepler's 8 mil K-Shield is described as doing. Anti-graffiti film is a surface layer, meant to be sacrificed and renewed, and it is not built to stop a pane breaking. If both risks apply to your building, tell your dealer which one applies to which glass.
