Solar control is where most buildings start. The film cuts how much of the sun's energy gets through your glass, which is what stops a floor overheating by mid-afternoon. The darker and more reflective you go, the more heat you keep out and the less daylight you keep. That trade is the whole conversation, and it is worth having elevation by elevation rather than for the building as a whole.

Glare is measured separately from heat, and in an office it is usually the complaint that arrives first: the screen nobody can read, the meeting room where the blinds stay down all afternoon. Reflective film works because the brighter side wins. In daylight the street is brighter than your office, so the glass reads as a mirror from outside and as a window from your desk. After dark, with the lights on, it swaps round. Chromosphere is the full silver version and Ecliptic is the compromise, mirrored outside but easier to see through from within. Neither gives you privacy at night, which is worth knowing before it goes on a ground-floor meeting room.

Every Kepler architectural range rejects 99% of ultraviolet, the near-clear ones included. If fading is your whole problem and heat is not, that is the useful part: you can take the ultraviolet out without darkening the glass or changing how the building looks from the street. Ultraviolet is not the only thing that fades a room, but it is the piece a film removes.

Wisconsin deserves a straight answer here. Solar film cuts the heat coming in, which helps you in July and works against you in January. On some elevations the honest specification is a lighter ceramic rather than the darkest film available, and anyone quoting you a saving without asking which way your glass faces is guessing.

Glare here is not only a summer problem. The winter sun sits low all season, coming in under the blinds and straight into people's eyes, and with snow on the ground it arrives from below as well. That is the case for treating glare as its own line in the specification, rather than hoping a heat film deals with it on the way past.

Start by having a commercial tinter look at the actual elevations.

Security film is thicker than solar film and its job is a different one. It is not there to change what comes through the glass; it is there to keep the glass together when something hits it. Kepler's K-Shield is a clear 8 mil film made to reinforce vulnerable glazing without changing how the building looks. What Kepler does not publish for it is a forced-entry, blast or impact rating, so say in the specification what you need the film to do, and ask for evidence that the proposed assembly does it. That is a fair question to put to any supplier, not only this one.

Film, glass, frame and any attachment system have to be judged together, because that is what actually meets the impact. The same film on a pane sitting loose in its frame behaves quite differently from one in a fully attached assembly. Film is no guarantee against injury or entry, and a thickness in mils on its own tells you nothing about how the whole thing will hold up.
