Car Window Tinting Utah

Tint does several things at once. It holds back the infrared that heats the cabin, cuts the glare coming off the road and the snow, blocks the ultraviolet that fades an interior, and keeps what is on the seats out of sight. Kepler warrants the film itself, not the fitting, against confirmed manufacturing defects for as long as the original named customer owns the vehicle, and a claim goes back through the dealer who fitted it. Utah is hard on glass, with hot July afternoons and freeze and thaw through the northern winters, so it is worth asking the dealer what they guarantee on their own workmanship as well.

It depends on the car and the film. A coupe with four windows is a different job from a three-row SUV, and a near-clear film is a different product from the darkest ceramic. Kepler does not set the price; the independent business fitting the film does, and it quotes you once it knows the vehicle and the shade. Start from what you want out of it. Nebula at 4% visible light is the darkest Kepler makes; Photon at the other end is close to clear and is chosen for heat rather than privacy, with Helios, Equinox and Stratum in between. Kepler publishes under 1% UV transmittance on all of them, so the real question is how dark you want the car to look and how much you want to see out at night. Compare them in the automotive shade range , then check your choice against the state limit for front side windows, which is at least 35% of light through the finished glass, before the work is booked.

The Utah Highway Patrol publishes the requirements set by Utah Code 41-6a-1635, last updated in May 2025. Your windshield has to let more than 70% of light through, with non-transparent material allowed only along the top edge, at the AS-1 line or the top four inches, plus a 3 by 4 inch patch in the lower left-hand corner. Front side windows have to let at least 35% through, and a 5% variance is allowed when a peace officer meters the light. Behind the driver any darkness is permitted, provided the car has both left and right side rear-view mirrors. No window may present a metallic or mirrored appearance, and a violation is an infraction. The detail is on our window tint laws page. It can be done, but it is easy to make a mess of. Heat softens the adhesive; scraping at cold glass lifts the film in shreds and can take the rear defroster lines with it, which is the part you cannot put back. Fitting tint does not automatically void your vehicle warranty. The FTC's guidance on aftermarket parts is that a warranty stays in effect when another company's part or another company's work is on the car, and that the manufacturer or dealer has to prove the aftermarket part caused the damage before denying coverage for it. Coverage can still be refused for a part that a faulty or badly fitted item actually damaged, so if you are told the film is a problem, ask which failure they believe it caused.

Kepler asks you to keep freshly tinted windows closed for a week after installation so the adhesive can bond, and to allow up to four weeks for curing to finish. Water pockets and a temporary glow around the dot matrix during that time are normal drying rather than faults, so leave them to evaporate instead of pressing them out. After that a clean microfiber cloth is all the glass needs, and Kepler excludes damage caused by improper care from the warranty.
