Tesla Window Tinting in Wisconsin

Wisconsin sets one limit for the front and another for the back. Tinting film on the front side windows has to leave at least 50% of the visible light coming through, measured on the glazing and film together, and the film may not be reflective. Rear side windows and the rear window come down to 35%. A 3% tolerance is allowed when an officer measures. The full picture is on our window tint laws page. There is also a medical exemption taking the front side windows to 35% on a treating physician’s recommendation, with the written statement carried in the vehicle. Film on the windshield is limited to the strip above the AS-1 line.

Leave the windows up while the adhesive cures — your dealer will tell you how long for the film they used. After that it is ordinary glass cleaning: a soft cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner, no abrasive pads, and nothing scraped across the inside face. The film goes on the inside of the glass, so the inside is the only surface that needs any thought.

Roughly, yes. An infrared meter held behind the glass shows how much infrared energy is getting through, and a heat lamp on the outside makes the comparison plain enough to feel. What it will not give you is the visible light figure Wisconsin actually measures — that takes a light meter on the glazing and film together.

Ultraviolet is the part you never see: under 1% of it gets through Kepler film, in every shade of both ranges. For most Teslas here, yes — and the law rather forces the question, since the front side windows have to pass at least half the light striking them. A ceramic film at a light shade still takes out the infrared, which is where the heat is. You do not need a heatwave for that to matter either: the National Weather Service warns that a parked car can turn dangerous on a mild day in the 70s, with dashboards and seats reaching 180°F and more.
