Start with what is actually bothering you. If it is heat in the car, the number to look at is infrared: Kepler IR takes out 81%, Kepler IR+ up to 98%. If it is privacy, look at visible light instead — 4% at the dark end of the range, 69% at the light end. If it is a house, start with the room and the direction it faces. Then check the law, because Utah requires at least 35% light transmittance on the front side windows, which is why the darkest shades belong behind the driver.

Since 7 May 2025, Utah has required a windshield to let through more than 70% of light and front side windows at least 35%, with a 5% variance allowed when a peace officer meters it. The rear window and the side windows behind the driver have no darkness limit, but where the rear glass is tinted the car must carry rear-view mirrors on both the left and the right. No window may present a metallic or mirrored appearance, and a violation of the section, Utah Code 41-6a-1635, is an infraction.

That is your dealer’s answer to give, not Kepler’s. Time on the job depends on the vehicle or the building, how many panes there are, how curved the glass is and which film you choose, so the business doing the work is the only one who can tell you. What is the same everywhere is the sequence: the glass is cleaned, the film is cut to the pane, then laid down and worked out flat, and then it is left to cure before you clean it or wind the windows down. Ask for the timing when you get your quote, and agree the appointment with the dealer directly.

Gently, and not too soon. Film needs time to cure, so leave the windows up and unwashed until your installer tells you it is ready. After that it is easy: a soft cloth and an ammonia-free cleaner, no abrasive pads, no scrapers and nothing sharp near the edges. Kepler’s warranty covers manufacturing defects such as bubbling, peeling and fading; it does not cover scratches, accidental damage or ordinary wear, which is the other reason to be careful with it.

It cuts the solar heat arriving through the glass, which is the part film can genuinely do something about. Kepler’s architectural range is published at up to 85% heat rejection; Cosmic 19, for example, is rated at 64% total solar heat rejection and a 0.36 solar heat gain coefficient. Less heat coming in means less work for the air conditioning through a Utah summer. What nobody can honestly give you is a dollar figure, because that depends on your glass, your insulation, your system and your rate.
